Drainage performance
Quantities of gullies inspected and cleaned per year.
To minimise flooding across roads and provide an effective highways drainage system, we maintain approximately 116,000 gullies. In order to maintain them, we carry out a cyclical regime to clean, empty or repair them as required.
Our gully cleansing programme is optimised to ensure higher risk locations are attended more frequently and lower risk locations less frequently.
The table below shows the number of gullies which have been attended by our gully crews over the last five years:
